A group of people from Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia packed their bags to Tennessee Sunday to help victims of the wildfires in Tennessee.
“There’s roughly 45 people on the ground now that are helping with cleanup and distributing items that have been collected,” said Pastor Jason Masters with Bold City Church.
Pastors said they created #OperationTN online, and they believe it’s one of the reasons they’ve had such a large amount of people reach out to help.
“They're going to help people salvage anything they can with their properties as well as cleaning up any debris,” Masters said.
Last week, Action News Jax reported on the churches and businesses that came together to fill semitrucks with supplies to take to fire victims in Tennessee.
Masters said the group has exceeded expectations, and have had a huge number of locals step up and donate goods. “There’s 75,000 pounds of goods that went up in three trucks and there’s a fourth located in Fernandina that’s being filled now,” he said.
The volunteers will be in Tennessee through Friday helping families and businesses. The fourth truck that’s being filled still has room for donations; it’s based at the Journey Church in Fernandina Beach.
