Volunteers invited to help clean up First Coast shorelines on Sept. 19

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and the Ocean Conservancy will host the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup this Saturday, Sept. 19, at locations across the First Coast. The annual event brings local volunteers together to remove trash and marine debris from area shorelines and waterways.

The local event is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, an annual global initiative to protect oceans, lakes, and rivers. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers around the world participate each year by removing trash and logging every piece collected, providing data used by the Ocean Conservancy to compile an annual report on marine debris.

In Jacksonville, local cleanup efforts aim to remove debris that injures wildlife, pollutes beaches and waterways, and threatens boater safety.

Advance registration is not required. Site captains at cleanup locations across the First Coast will register volunteers on-site and provide gloves and trash bags.

The event also provides local students with an opportunity to fulfill community service requirements. Site captains will issue service hour certificates on-site to participating students.

The cleanup takes place Saturday, Sept. 19, at various designated locations across the First Coast. Site captains will be present at each location to assist volunteers.
