VyStar marks 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 with opening of a new volunteer center

VyStar Credit Union opened the new VyStar Volunteer Resource Center at Feeding Northeast Florida in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — VyStar Credit Union opened the new VyStar Volunteer Resource Center at Feeding Northeast Florida in Jacksonville on Friday to mark the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 and the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

The event launched the credit union’s fifth annual Good is everywhere Week, a service initiative connecting employees, members and corporate partners through community volunteer projects across Florida and Georgia.

The dedicated space at Feeding Northeast Florida was established to expand year-round volunteer participation and support hunger-relief programs throughout the region. As part of Friday’s launch, the City of Jacksonville issued an official proclamation recognizing Good is everywhere Week.

During the volunteer event, VyStar employees worked alongside community partners from FIS, One Call, Regency Centers and Mayo Clinic. Together, the volunteers sorted and packed food for individuals and families facing food insecurity across the region.

Patricia McElroy serves as senior vice president and Foundation president at VyStar Credit Union. She highlighted the role of collective community service during the center’s opening.

“As we celebrate Good is everywhere, we are reminded that the most meaningful impact happens when people come together in service of others,” McElroy said. “Today’s opening of the VyStar Volunteer Resource Center creates a lasting opportunity for volunteers to support Feeding Northeast Florida’s important work and reflects our ongoing commitment to helping our communities thrive.”

Susan King is the president and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida. She emphasized the critical reliance the food bank has on community help.

“Volunteers are essential to our mission,” King said. “The VyStar Volunteer Resource Center will enhance the volunteer experience and help us welcome even more individuals and organizations who want to make a difference in the fight against hunger.”

In 2025, VyStar employees contributed 8,253 volunteer hours during the Good is everywhere initiative, which formed part of more than 45,000 total volunteer hours donated by the credit union throughout that year. Additionally, VyStar donated $8.2 million to more than 440 nonprofit organizations in 2025.
