Ware County schools collect money for family displaced by storm

WARE COUNTY, Ga. — Ware County schools are currently collecting donations for the Buck Thigpen family. This comes after the family's home was destroyed by a tornado during a recent storm on Friday, April 19.

Buck Thigpen, his wife Healther and their son, Chael, were in the home at the time of the tornado. Heather is a media specialist at Williams Heights Elementary School.

"It was like being thrown into a dryer and tumbling over and over," Heather said. "We dug our son up from under drywall and took off running across the road to my in-law's house. We came out of this horrendous situation with cuts, bruises and and my husband broke his collar bone."

An account has been established with Ameris Bank to assist this local family. Donations can be made at one of the following two bank locations:

  • 2110 Memorial Drive, Waycross, GA 31501
  • 505 Haines Avenue,Waycross, GA 31501
