Waycross, GA — The Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating what led up to a recent riot at the Ware State Prison Saturday.
The incident left 2 staff members and 3 inmates with minor injuries.
Velecia Smith said her son has been at the prison for two years and she cannot get a hold of him. Smith drove from Atlanta to try and get answers.
“To make sure my son number one, don’t have COVID if he does that he getting the proper medical care. I tried to contact them to get a wellness check on him and I just can’t get any information.” Smith said.
According to the Department of Corrections, 32 staff members tested positive 22 inmates tested positive and two died at the prison.
