JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Oct. 14 Update: All westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard reopened Sunday night. Action News Jax is working to learn if alcohol played a factor in the crash that sent six people to the hospital.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is responding to a crash that has closed all westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard at Market Place Drive.
JFRD tweeted that there are 6 patients that were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a traffic alert sent to local news stations that the westbound lanes of Atlantic Blvd. are closed and that traffic is being diverted onto Kernan Blvd.
JFRD is reporting that one person is trapped and has critical injuries and is asking drivers to be careful in the area.
JFRD originally reported that the crash was due to a wrong way driver, but after further investigation says that the crash was caused by a car driving eastbound that hit another vehicle which went into the westbound lane causing a further crash.
JSO said around 10:50 p.m. that the road should open soon.
