At least three dozen Veterans Affairs’ facilities are getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
The VA stated it’s distributing the vaccine with a phased approach and will have a limited amount of the vaccine to start.
In Florida, the only VA hospital to get the vaccine is in Orlando, where it has freezers that can keep the vaccine at a very low temperature.
The VA stated there are 37 sites with the Pfizer vaccine. It initially requested 73,000 doses of that vaccine.
There are 188 sites ready for the Moderna vaccine if that gets approval. It’s submitted for 122,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine.
The VA stated the vaccine will be given to health care providers first and then the veterans most at risk.
The department cautions that amount is still a long way from covering all the vets under its care.
Veterans can get their questions answered tonight about the COVID-19 vaccine and VA health care at 5 p.m. by dialing 833-380-0417.
