Friday night, fire crews continue to put out hot spots in Nassau County, where a fire scorched 40 acres.
Firefighters rushed to the scene off Barnwell Road to put out the flames as heavy smoke filled the air.
The fire off Barnwell Road was the second wild fire in Nassau County in a little more than a week.
A fire in Bryceville burned more than 700 acres. That fire destroyed two homes and damaged eight others.
“This Bryceville fire last week spread so fast and the winds are up now. It’s very frightening for all of our homes, and our pets,” said Brenda Gorman.
Annaleasa Winter with Florida Forest Service said dry conditions are making it easier for wild fires to start. That’s why they’re warning residents to be careful.
“All of our fires right now are caused, pretty much by yard debris. It’s a very, common cause. It’s just too dangerous right now. You think you’re not going to have any problems, you don’t want to burn your neighbor’s house down, you don’t want to burn your own house down,” said Winter.
Winter says the quick response from firefighters from across the area, is the main reason, they were able to get the fire under control so quickly. She says crews were able to keep the fire contained, to that grassy field so it never reached any of the homes nearby.
