Witnesses: Victims of Christmas night quadruple shooting were mourning teen at vigil

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stuffed animals and spent candles sit in front of a home near where a quadruple shooting took place Christmas night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said four people, including a 2-year-old girl, were shot near the corner of Odessa and Franklin streets.

The 2-year-old is in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen. JSO said three others suffered gunshot wounds at the scene: a 21-year-old man was shot in his right thigh; a 19-year-old man was shot in his elbow; and a 17-year-old boy was shot in his arm and back. The condition of these three victims was not given by officials.

Bruce Moye lives nearby and says a makeshift memorial has been at the corner of Odessa and Franklin streets since Dec. 3, when Avery McKnight, known by many as “Bink,” was shot and killed near the intersection.

Investigators say they have little information about who's responsible, the motive, or if it's connected to any previous shootings at the same location.

"Every time I come out people are doing a vigil for him," Moye said.

Moye said there was a group out at the vigil Christmas night when gunfire rang out again.

“So they were just trying to remember the good times that they had with Bink and this happens,” Moye said.

While the memorial has been there for weeks, the crime scene tape that sits only a few feet away is new, leftover from the shooting Christmas night.

JSO roped off the corner along with a portion of two nearby apartment complexes across the street.

Moye said he's lived in the area for years and it’s time for a change.

“The best things for kids to do, make sure they further their education,” Moye said.

Moye admits he used to sell drugs and live a much different life. Now he's trying to help others who, like him, choose the wrong path.

“If you don’t want to go to college, go get a trade -- do something. Life has changed,” Moye said.

JSO said there were several witnesses, and they are still working to uncover exactly what happened.
