Big day for little hearts: 32nd annual Bass Tournament benefiting Wolfson Children’s Hospital

Bass Tournament (Wolfson Children's Hospital)

PALATKA, Fla. — It’s the final day of Wolfson Children’s Hospital Bass Tournament in Palatka!

The tournament is one of the largest bass fishing events in the state, previously attracting 688 boating participants. Each year anglers across the Southeast are encouraged to attend.

This year participants are competing for cash prizes totaling more than $48,000. Organizers said the public can also enter a drawing for a 21′ 2021 Bullet Boat with matching Boatmate trailer and Mercury outboard motor, valued at $58,000.

All proceeds benefit the Wolfson Children’s C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute.

The patient ambassador and face of this years’ event is 2-year-old Declan Shannon, who the hospital said was born with a number of heart conditions, including pulmonary atresia, a birth defect where the valve that controls blood flow from the heart to the lungs doesn’t form at all [1].

Wolfson officials say the Tournament has helped fund specialized treatments, lifesaving technology, and capital improvements at the hospital since 1989.

You can register for the event or donate here. You can also watch the event live on Facebook.
