Woman determined to find driver after Nassau County hit-and-run

A local mother says she is determined to find the man who hit her car with his car and kept going.

Dennise Orand lost both her parents in car crashes.

“They died on the side of the road years apart,” she said.

So when a man's car hit her car on US 1 at County Road 108 in October, she said she wasn’t letting him get away.

She said she chased the man from Hilliard all the way to Charlton County.

Donald Chancey Jr. was arrested for driving without a license and two other charges, but was released before Nassau County deputies obtained a warrant for hit-and-run.

“He is currently out on bond and refuses to turn himself in,” she said.

She said Chancey didn’t have car insurance at the time of the hit-and-run.

Left with her car insurance deductible and medical bills, she took to social media to try to get justice.

“I created a Facebook page for this and was posting on the news stations, posting it on anything I could so someone could help spot him,” she said.

Orand said, aside from Chancey’s arrest, she’d also like to see stricter penalties for hit-and-run drivers.

“If someone flees the scene of an accident, that it be considered a felony charge,” Orand said.

She said she’d also like to see people be more careful on local roads.

“I know what it’s like to get that call that your mom and dad died on the side of the road,” she said.
