Woman fatally stabbed in Green Cove Springs; male suspect fleeing scene dies in car crash

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Authorities say a woman was stabbed to death by her boyfriend Wednesday night at the St. Johns Landing Apartments on Orion Road, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

CCSO Lt. Wayne McKinney said the woman's 14-year-old daughter witnessed much of the stabbing.

Emergency dispatch got a call about the stabbing just after 6:30 p.m. Authorities got reports of the suspect driving in his girlfriend's car.

After the man fled the stabbing scene, deputies saw a car matching the description. As deputies turned around, the suspect sped away and then crashed in the 2500 block of Russell Road. The man later died, according to CCSO spokesperson Mary Justino.

The Florida Highway Patrol had Russell Road from Hidden Waters East to Mariners Road closed for several hours during the crash investigation.

McKinney did not say what the argument that led up to the stabbing was about.
