MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police said they arrested one of two women who were pictured sitting on a sea turtle after officers responded to a disturbance near U.S. 192.
Photos that allegedly show Stephanie Moore and another individual sitting on a turtle at Melbourne Beach went viral on social media in July.
Concerned citizens flooded Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with complaints, which prompted a criminal investigation.
On Saturday morning, officers responded to a disturbance on Espanola Way. During the call, they made contact with 20-year-old Moore, who they discovered had a warrant for her arrest.
The charge on the county felony warrant was described as “possessing, selling or molesting a marine turtle or eggs nest.”
Moore is being held on a $2,000 bond at the Brevard County Jail.
