Restaurant Report: Metro Diner location, other restaurants cited for violations by inspectors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Roaches, flies and mold are some of the violations found at places you may like to eat at in the Jacksonville area.

State inspectors said El Taino Bar and Grill on University Boulevard at Terry Road had the following violations, causing it to temporarily close:

  • 10 live roaches
  • An employee handwash sink not accessible
  • A spray bottle with toxic substance not labeled

Elsewhere, the state inspectors said they found the following at Lexington Hotel on Prudential Boulevard near Wharfside Way:

  • 16 live roaches
  • 11 dead roaches
  • A stained cutting board

It was also temporarily closed.

Inspectors said La Nopalera Mexican Restaurant on St. Johns Avenue near Hamilton Street had:

  • 1 dead roach
  • 31 live, small-flying insects
  • A mold-like substance in an ice machine

The restaurant was temporarily closed.

The Metro Diner on Roosevelt Boulevard near San Juan Avenue was cited during a state inspection for:

  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • Water leaking from a pipe
  • A mold-like substance in an ice machine

All restaurants mentioned have passed follow-up inspections.
