JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 2020 is starting off rough for many manatees in Florida, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Research Institute. Seven manatees have been rescued around the state in the first 21 days of 2020. Injuries of these manatees include cold stress and excessive buoyancy, possibly due to watercraft injuries.
In 2019, 96 manatees were rescued, according to the FWC. The primary cause of these rescues were watercraft injuries.

Manatee Rescued from Cold Stress and Watercraft Wounds This adult manatee was reported as lethargic, and unresponsive to being touched - the rescue team reported the manatee has cold stress and chronic watercraft wounds.
