NEW YORK — The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island visitors were evacuated Monday afternoon after three propane tanks caught on fire, WPIX reported.
The propane tanks were located at a construction site on the north side of the island and one worker was injured, according to a tweet from the New York Fire Department.
#FDNY members are operating on scene on the north side of Liberty Island - 3 propane cylinders on fire at a construction site. There are currently no injuries reported. The area is being evacuated.

The construction worker was treated on the scene and released, WABC reported
The fire broke out shortly before noon, WNBC reported.
