Julia Chavez, 13, had an ear infection and headache over the weekend, according to the Augusta Chronicle. She was prescribed antibiotics from an urgent care facility. Chavez collapsed Sunday morning and was taken to the emergency room.

Chavez’s mother, Jenna Randall told the Augusta Chronicle that the hospital did a CT scan and blood test that found that Chavez had internal bleeding caused by leukemia.

Chavez died just after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, hours after she was admitted to the hospital, according to WSB-TV.

Chavez’s family members told the Augusta Chronicle that the only symptoms Chavez showed were the occasional bruising that they really didn’t think much of and fatigue.

“She had bleeding in her brain, lungs, stomach... everywhere,” her father, Dennis Lee Chavez, wrote on social media. “That’s where we found out she had leukemia. It came on so hard and so fast. Doctors told us there was no way we could have known.”

Chavez will be buried Friday in Grovetown, Georgia on Friday, according to WSB-TV.
