Alabama deputy on leave after being accused of promoting prostitution

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama sheriff’s deputy was placed on administrative leave after being accused of promoting prostitution, authorities said.

Jerrod Moore, 25, who works in the corrections division of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, was charged with two counts of promoting prostitution in the third degree, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Friday.

Moore surrendered to authorities at about 3:30 p.m. CDT on Friday, AL.com reported.

Moore was released after posting $600 bail, according to WIAT-TV.

He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the sheriff’s office said in its release.

The charges against Moore are misdemeanors, the release stated.

No other details were released by the sheriff’s office. An investigation is ongoing.
