SAN DIEGO — Friday and Saturday night’s major league baseball games between the host San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants was postponed Friday night after a member of the Giants tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Following a positive test for COVID-19 in the San Francisco Giants' organization, tonight’s and tomorrow’s scheduled games between the Giants and the host San Diego Padres at Petco Park have been postponed out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing and contact tracing to be conducted,” Major League Baseball said in a statement. " Major League Baseball will continue to provide updates as necessary."
Both teams announced the positive test and the cancellation of Friday night’s game at Petco Park at around 6:30 p.m., KNSD reported.

Players were being introduced and were lining up for a moment of silence for the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which was to be followed by the national anthem, ESPN reported. That is when two umpires emerged from the locker room and spoke with officials from both teams, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Members of both teams stood around and sat in their dugouts as they awaited the umpires' decision, the newspaper reported.
The Padres' next series is scheduled to begin Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park.
“MLB will announce additional information regarding the status of our series with San Francisco as soon as possible,” the Padres said in a statement.
