FDA announces ADHD drug shortage

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on its website that the popular ADHD medication Adderall is in short supply.

According to Bloomberg, the leading U.S. manufacturer of the drug, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., said that the shortage is expected to last two to three months. The company said that a summer labor shortage and higher demand have led to delays.

According to the New York Times, prescriptions have increased by 16%, from 36 million in 2019 to 41 million in 2021.

Other makers of the drug are also in short supply, including Novartis AG, Camber Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., according to Bloomberg.

According to The Wall Street Journal, supplies of both Adderall and generic versions of the drug are expected to improve in the coming months.
