Patches McCullough, 30, a neighbor at the apartment complex, said he was with his 5- and 7-year-old daughters when he saw the gunman with an AK-47 on the back balcony of the apartment, the Free Press reported.
“It was like something out of a movie, you don’t see nothing like that in Dearborn Heights,” McCullough told the newspaper. “I’m from the east side. I was more worried about my kids, they’re everything to me.”
McCullough told WDIV he tried to talk the gunman into putting his weapon down.
“I’m looking and I’m like, ‘Come on, man. My kids are behind the door,’” McCullough told the television station. “‘Listen man, we don’t want to do this.’”
Officers from Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, Inkster and the state police were at the scene, the Free Press reported. Police said there is currently no threat but officers will remain in the area throughout the evening.
The case remains under investigation.
