Iowa man accused of chasing ex-girlfriend through cornfield with gun during car chase

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — An Iowa man is accused of chasing his ex-girlfriend through a cornfield with a gun during a car chase, authorities said.

Zachary Ryan Griffin, 31, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Thursday and charged with domestic abuse with a weapon, according to Scott County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Griffin was released from custody after posting $2,000 bail, online records show.

According to court documents, Griffin and his former girlfriend used to live together. On Thursday, he allegedly trespassed onto her property in Long Grove and chased her through a cornfield while driving a car, the Quad-City Times reported. The woman was also driving a car, the newspaper reported.

The woman and another witness told police that they saw Griffin exit his car during the chase and show them a gun, the Dispatch-Argus reported.

Deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded and found a gun in Griffin’s car, the newspaper reported.

Griffin will have a preliminary hearing on May 14. If convicted of the charge, Griffin could face up to two years in jail, the Quad-City Times reported.
