Michigan woman, son die in crash on day of her husband’s funeral

BELLEVUE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Michigan woman and her son were killed in a car crash Friday as they were traveling to the funeral of the woman’s husband, authorities said.

Loralie Ann Hunter, 71, of Bellevue Township, and Troy Bass, 51, of Vermontville, died when their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck, according to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office. Another passenger in their vehicle is in critical condition, the Lansing State Journal reported.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries, the newspaper reported.

Hunter died at an area hospital, according to her obituary. Bass was a child from Hunter’s first marriage, according to her obituary.

Bass was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1969, according to his obituary.

Hunter’s husband, Ross Hunter, died April 10, WJBK reported. He was 60. Ross Hunter’s funeral had been scheduled for Friday morning, the State Journal reported. The accident occurred approximately 30 minutes before services were to begin, the newspaper reported. The couple had been married since 1998 but had been in a relationship since 1985, according to Loralie Hunter’s obituary.

The married couple’s funeral will be held Saturday, MLive reported. Bass’ funeral arrangements are pending, according to his obituary.
