Natalie Desselle Reid, ‘B.A.P.S.’ and ‘Eve’ actress, dead at 53

LOS ANGELES — Actress Natalie Desselle Reid, who played Mickey in the 1997 comedy “B.A.P.S.,” died Monday at age 53, multiple news outlets are reporting.

According to the New York Times, Reid, who had colon cancer, died at her Los Angeles home.

“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beautiful Natalie this morning from colon cancer,” read a post on Reid’s official Instagram page. “She was a bright light in this world. A queen. An extraordinary mother and wife. Her diverse career touched so many and she will be loved forever. Naturally, we are grieving and processing this profound loss and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy at this extremely difficult time.”

The actress, who also appeared in the TV series “Eve” and the Tyler Perry film “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” leaves behind her husband, Leonard Reid, as well as her father, a brother and three children, the Times reported.

Actress Halle Berry took to Twitter to remember her “B.A.P.S.” co-star, calling Reid “one of the most precious people I’ve ever known.”

“Natalie taught us love, joy and humor through her characters – she could never dim her light, and it was infectious,” Berry wrote. “With her I laughed harder than I’d ever laughed before. She showed us it was OK to be goofy and funny while still being sincere and extraordinarily kind.”

Rapper and actress Eve, star of the eponymous sitcom, also shared a tribute to Reid, according to The Associated Press.

“Can’t believe it. Rest in peace,” she wrote on Instagram, adding: “Thank you for your light and spirit. Prayers, peace and blessings. Please pray for her family.”
