The Duffer Brothers announced that the Netflix series will end with season 5, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The timeline should not be a surprise for fans.

In a letter posted to Twitter, Matt and Ross Duffer told fans of the series that they had the entire story planned when the series started seven years ago.

“At the time, we predicted the story would last four or five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are not hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last,” they wrote.

Volume 1 of season 4 will start streaming on May 27. Volume 2 will start July 1, CNN reported.

The Duffer brothers did say there are “still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ’Stranger Things;’ new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”

They did not say how those stories would be told.
