STUART, Fla. — A man remains in critical condition at a Florida hospital after a toddler shot him in the head over the weekend, police said.
According to WPTV and WPBF, the incident occurred Saturday at a Stuart home. Officers arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound to the head, the Stuart Police Department said in a Facebook post Monday.
“After a thorough investigation conducted with the State Attorney’s Office and the Stuart Police Department, it was determined that a toddler in the home accidently shot the male victim,” the post read. “Unfortunately, the loaded firearm was placed on a countertop that was within the child’s reach unsecured.”

Emergency crews flew the man to a nearby hospital for treatment, the news outlets reported. His condition remains critical, officials said.
