US Rep. Greg Steube injured at Florida home

U.S. Rep Greg Steube was injured in an accident at his Florida home on Wednesday, his office confirmed.

Steube, 44, a Republican who has represented Florida’s 17th congressional district since 2019, “has sustained several injuries,” his office wrote on the congressman’s official Twitter account.

Update 10:35 a.m. EST Jan. 19: On Thursday, officials with Steube’s office said the congressman spent the night in an intensive care unit after he fell 25 feet off a ladder while cutting tree limbs on his property in Sarasota. They described his injuries as “serious ... but not life threatening.”

Original report: WWSB-TV also confirmed that Steube had been injured.

“We will provide additional updates when possible,” Steube’s Twitter account stated. “Please pray for the Congressman and his family.”

Steube’s office did not provide details about how the representative was injured. However, Florida Politics reported that he was reportedly doing routine home maintenance and allegedly fell 25 feet from his roof to the ground. Steube’s office has not confirmed that report.

Before winning election to the House in 2018, Steube spent eight years in the Florida statehouse, Politico reported. He served six years in the state House and two years in the Florida Senate, Florida Politics reported.

He also served in the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2008.

Stuebe has served on the House Judiciary and House Foreign Affairs committees.

A representative for Steube did not immediately respond to a request for more details.

Rep. Brian Mast, a Republican from Stuart, tweeted: “Praying for you, brother.”

Vern Buchanan, another Florida Republican in the House, tweeted his hopes for Steube’s recovery.
