The 58-year-old returned home $250,000 richer after winning the top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Gold Rush scratch-off game.

According to a news release, the winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, bought the $10 scratch-off game early one morning in Ocean City.

After realizing he had won the top prize in the promotion, the Reisterstown resident returned to his vacation residence and excitedly told his wife.

“This was too exciting,” the winner said in a statement. “I had to wake her up to tell her I won.”

That is the kind of news one enjoys to hear first thing in the morning.

This is not the first lottery win for the teacher. He won $10,000 last year playing the Racetrax game last year, lottery officials said.

“This is light years beyond that win,” the man said.

The Acme grocery store where the man bought the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the lottery, officials said.

A father of two adult children, the winning teacher’s plan is to use some of his winnings to help his children. The rest will go into his retirement fund.

“It is a nice bonus,” the winner said in a statement. “We are at a good point in our lives where we are financially secure. This gives us more security.”
