The unidentified woman was reportedly holding a 9-month-old baby at the time of the attack, and Kennedy is also accused of attacking a man who attempted to help her, Flood told WHNS.

According to Flood, the woman located a firearm in a piece of Kennedy’s clothing while he was attacking the second, unidentified man, and that she fired at Kennedy when he later charged at her, the TV station reported.

Flood confirmed that investigators believe the woman fired the gun in self-defense, WYFF reported.

Kennedy – who is charged with first-degree domestic violence, unlawful neglect of a child, third-degree assault and battery and felony in possession – is in stable but critical condition at an area hospital, Flood told the TV station.
