First Alert Weather Day: Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia under severe T-storm watch until 10 pm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team is predicting strong storms, gusty wind and possible hail during your afternoon commute and evening.

Action News Jax’s meteorologists report that a few storms could become strong as they interact with the Atlantic sea breeze near or just west of the I-95 corridor. Storms will enter the area between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. along I-75.

  • First Alert Weather Day for afternoon and evening strong storms
  • Storms initiate along I-75 between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Storms progress east to northeast into Jacksonville metro area between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Heavy rain, lightning, small hail and gusty winds are the potential impacts
  • Another wave of steady rain will arrive this evening and linger through 10-11 p.m.
  • Today, the rain and storms make it all the way to our local beaches
  • Storms could be enhanced by the Atlantic sea breeze near or just to the west of I-95
  • Should be rain for JAGS Draft party setup / during the event
  • JAX River Jams will likely be impacted by the timing of rain/storms (with the latest thinking)

The line of storms will generally move east to northeast and approach Jacksonville between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Clay County, Nassau County and Duval County will be the most affected.

Gusty winds and small hail are the primary threats Thursday afternoon. In addition, there will be some brief heavy rainfall and lightning.

Highs will reach the lower to mid-80s in the afternoon.

We are expected to see another round of showers and a few embedded storms on Friday.
