First Alert Weather Team warns of potential thunderstorms after 1 nice day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Although today is expected to bring sunshine and pleasant weather, Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team predicts Thursday will bring thunderstorms and strong winds.

Wednesday morning temperatures are comfortably cool in the 50s inland and low 60s over the metro area. Action News Jax’s meteorologists predict partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 70s.

Breezes are expected at the beach with a high risk of rip currents, but Meteorologist Trevor Gibbs said this is the only hazard for today.

However, on Thursday, the First Alert Weather Team expects to call a First Alert Weather Day. Low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico will send numerous showers and thunderstorms our direction during the day and into the night.

Gibbs is tracking two main rounds of activity: one in the morning and one in the evening. During both times, severe thunderstorms are possible.

The strongest storms are said to contain 50+ mph winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, some hail and a possible tornado.

Quiet weather returns Friday.
