YMCA Thingamajig Convention 2016

On Wednesday, August 3rd, more than 700 summer campers from across the First Coast attended the 2nd Annual Thingamajig Invention Convention at Edward Waters College.

Thingamajig is a YMCA-trademarked program that is endorsed by the White House. During the convention, kids ages 7-15 were given the opportunity to learn, play and be inspired through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).  The day consisted of hands-on workshops, presentations and games.

“STEAM opens doors to strategic thinking, creative expression and a bright future for our youth,” said Maria Aristizabal, executive director of youth development at the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast.

VyStar Credit Union, a long-standing partner of YMCA of Florida's First Coast, was the visionary sponsor for this year's Thingamajig. "We were excited about the opportunity to expand our support of this great institution through their Thingamajig conference. VyStar is always looking for new and innovative ways to educate and empower our youth to serve as examples among their peers and in their communities," said Judy Walz, senior vice president of marketing and planning at VyStar Credit Union.
