The third season of the hit FOX TV show, “Empire” premieres on Sept. 21.
In a video posted to the show’s YouTube, the show’s executive producer talks about the most notable character on “Empire,” Cookie Lyon and her relationship with the show’s patriarch, Lucious Lyon.
“They had rekindled their romance, and then it all went to hell,” said Ilene Chaiken, “Empire” executive producer.
At the end of season 2, Lucious betrays Cookie by marrying one of her biggest enemies on the show, Anika.
“Cookie is pretty much done with Lucious. He has betrayed her love. He’s decide to marry Anika in order to save himself from going to jail,” said Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie.
Henson says fans can expect Lucious to get even more wicked in season 3, while Cookie will go on her own independent journey.
Season 3 also promises to dive deeper into Lucious and Cookie’s relationship, with flashbacks to Philadelphia in the 1980s, when Cookie met Lucious.
