3 things you didn't know about Yazz the Greatest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax had the opportunity to speak to Bryshere Gray, better known as Yazz the Greatest, who plays Hakeem on "Empire," at the Black Expo in Jacksonville.

Here are three things you may not have know about Yazz the Greatest.

1. While his “Empire” character Hakeem is often selfish, Yazz the Greatest is involved in philanthropy. “I’m touring the world and giving back to the kids with my foundation YTG,” Yazz said.

Yazz reportedly tours juvenile facilities to help kids at risk.

2. Yazz was born and raised in Philadelphia.“I’m just taking one day at a time, living my dreams. I’m from West Philadelphia. Just staying consistent and not stopping, regardless,” Yazz said.

The Philadelphia city council adopted a resolution on Jan. 29, 2015 honoring Yazz for “his positive contributions to pop culture as a rapper and actor, as well as his recent successful performance in the television show 'Empire.'"

3. Yazz said he has been involved in music since high school.“Other than 'Empire,' I’m working on my album,” he said.
