Police investigating possible drowning at apartment complex on Jacksonville’s Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that a teenage girl is in critical condition after a possible drowning at Madelyn Oaks Apartments on Wednesday evening.

The apartment complex is located at 5710 Lenox Avenue. It’s the same complex where a child was pulled from a pond last month.

At approximately 8:29 p.m., officers responded to the location and found an unresponsive teenage girl. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was immediately called, and lifesaving measures were taken.

Witnesses at the scene told JFRD personnel that they observed the unresponsive girl in the community pool and pulled her out of the water to initiate CPR. Those witnesses performed CPR until JFRD arrived. The teen was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Detectives from the Homicide and Crime Scene units are conducting an investigation but say there are no obvious signs of foul play at this time.
