None — ATLANTA, Ga. - I've got a special warning for you: There are many different versions of caller ID spoofs going on. Where you may get a phone call on your caller id, where it might pop up saying it's the local police department or the sheriff's department.
They're saying there's a warrant out for your arrest saying if you don't pay us a fine right now, you're going to be arrested.
Or you may be told you're going to jail because you owe on an unpaid loan. The most common of those is a bill collector saying you owe money on a nonexistent payday loan.
All use fake caller ID, coming from organizations like law enforcement that have nothing to do with it and know nothing about it. When you see something pop up on caller ID today, you need to know that it may not be legit at all.
The caller ID may not have any connection to who's actually calling. Using the spoof software, they could make it appear as if President Barack Obama is on the line. Remember that the next time someone starts threatening you on the phone.
