Cold weather hits the Jacksonville area

The temperatures early Wednesday morning were the coldest since February in the Jacksonville area.

Temperatures have crashed into the 20s near and west of Interstate 95 to the 30s right along the St Johns River, intracoastal and beaches. The record low temperature for Wednesday is 28 degrees, which was set in 2008.

This is the first freeze at JIA since February 14 and for inland areas north and west of Jacksonville since Feb. 28.

Another inland freeze can be expected early Thursday with another round of record and near temperatures.

Record lows in the area:

  • Alma, Ga. had a low of 20 degrees
  • Jacksonville, Fla. had a low of 27 degrees
