JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Southern League announced that five members of the Jacksonville Suns have been suspended due to Friday's on-field incident between the Suns and the Birmingham Barons at Bragan Field.
Manager Andy Barkett, pitcher Matt Ramsey, and infielder Wilfredo Gimenez have been suspended for three games beginning with tonight’s contest against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium. Pitcher Jheyson Manzueta has also been suspended for three games, and his suspension will begin on August 1. Infielder Alfredo Lopez has been suspended for four games, and his suspension will begin on August 1.
Each Suns player was fined for leaving their position per league rule, and all Suns personnel listed above that were suspended were fined for an additional amount. The amount of the fines was not disclosed.
A revised roster, reflecting the moves to the suspended list, is attached.
The Suns and Biscuits will be back at it on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT (8:05 p.m. ET). The Suns will start left-hander Justin Nicolino (8-3, 3.16) while the Biscuits will send out a lefty of their own in Grayson Garvin (0-4, 3.72).
