Ellie Marie Washtock, 38, was positively identified Monday afternoon, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was discovered by a 15-year-old son on Thursday morning around 7:30 a.m.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office's initial investigation found that Washtock was doing an independent investigation of the death of Michelle O'Connell.

The investigation into Washtock's death was then taken over by PCSO due to a conflict of interest. O'Connell's death in 2010 was ruled a suicide, but her family believes that her boyfriend, a St. Johns deputy at the time, shot and killed her.

PCSO said Washtock identified as both male and female and died from a gunshot wound.
