NORTHEAST FLORIDA, SOUTHEAST GEORGIA — More than 11,000 people in Florida and 6,000 people in Georgia have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise. Officials are attempting contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia as schools,to businesses and public events are closed or canceled.

Lake City Police Officer tests positive for COVID-19
April 4, 5:30 p.m: The Lake City Police Department said one of its officers tested positive for COVID-19 and is in good condition. The officer is isolated at home.
The officer took a voluntary test, but was not exhibiting symptoms before testing positive.
“Our Department has been proactive in taking as many precautions as possible to reduce exposure for our officers and the public, and we will continue to do so," said Lake City Police Chief Argatha Gilmore. "We have worked tirelessly to prepare in the event that one of our employees tested positive. I want to reassure the community that we remain fully operational and able to deliver responsive public safety services.”
LCPD implemented social distancing several weeks ago and provides officers with protective personal equipment. Patrol cars are sanitized with medical grade products after arrests.
A review of the infected officer’s contacts over the past two weeks showed they had no prolonged direct contact with members of the public and did not transport any prisoners.
Four other LCPD officers have been tested and are waiting for their results in self-isolation at home.
COVID-19 cases now listed by zip code
April 4, 4:15 p.m: The Florida Department of Health’s Coronavirus Dashboard now lists positive cases by zip code, allowing residents to see exactly how many people in their neighborhoods have coronavirus.
Duval County’s 32207 zip code, comprised of San Marco, Miramar, Pine Forest, Lakewood, Empire Point, St. Nicholas and the Southbank has the most cases in the county, with 53 positives Saturday at 4 p.m..

Jacksonville mayor says 5% of community COVID-19 test results positive
April 4, 1:37 p.m: Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced on Twitter that 5% of the COVID-19 tests produced locally have produced positive results.

Georgia governor gives update on opening of Glynn County beaches
April 4, 1:30 p.m: Georgia Govoernor Brian P. Kemp said that the Department of Natural Resources and Department of Public Safety have not reported any issues regarding his executive order to open Glynn County beaches as of 6 p.m. yesterday.

The Board released the following statement on social media Friday:
"In compliance with Governor Kemp’s Shelter-in-Place order, Glynn County beaches are open for the purposes of exercise as of 6:00 p.m. on April 3, 2020. However the use of chairs, tents, and umbrellas on Georgia’s coastal beaches is prohibited per the Georgia Department of Natural Resources effective as of 6:00 p.m. on April 3, 2020 through April 13, 2020. In order to provide parking, the parking areas of Massengale Park and Coast Guard Park will open as of 6:00 p.m. While using these areas, continue to maintain a distance of more than six feet from others who do not live in your household.

City of Jacksonville advises of potential traffic on route to Lot J COVID-19 testing site
April 4, 8:38 a.m: The City of Jacksonville took to Twitter to remind individuals wishing to be tested for COVID-19 at the Lot J federal testing site that there may be increased traffic. This is due to the Hart Bridge Expressway ramp detour.

Walmart limits number of customers, creates in-store social distancing measures
April 4, 6 a.m: The nation’s largest retailer says it will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly about 20% of the average store’s capacity.

To oversee the restriction, workers will mark a queue at a single-entry door, and direct arriving customers there, where they’ll be admitted one by one. The store will also institute one-way movement through our aisles next week in some stores, including floor markers and direction from workers.
