Hives worth $20,000 stolen from Georgia beekeeper

BANKS COUNTY, Ga. - Beekeeper Don Kuchenmeister woke up Sunday morning to discover dozens of his hives were stolen.

"I hope you get stung good," Kuchenmeister said.

Kuchenmeister said within about 30 minutes, thieves took off with $15,000 to $20,000 worth of hives and equipment. He noticed tire marks in the ground leading up to the bees and thinks that at least half a dozen people took part in stealing them.

Kuchenmeister believes no ordinary thief would have been able to pull it off.

He said "People that come steal have an idea how it works with bees they might have worked for a beekeeper before. They have a general idea. They don’t have no money, so they steal it to get themselves in business, or they steal it to resell it real quick."

Area police are still looking for the thieves who took his hives.
