Jumbo Shrimp games return to full capacity

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jumbo Shrimp game set for Tuesday night is the first to return to full capacity since 2019, Scott Kornberg, a spokesperson said. That means the ballpark could hold up to 11,000 people once again.

Kornberg says fans helped by following safety rules and CDC guidelines all season.

It’s good news for players, fans, and business owners nearby. Just ask Kacheryl Gantt, owner of The Avenue Grill.

“Customers are coming back around,” she told Action News Jax.

Gantt opened the restaurant eight years ago for the people in her Eastside community. Being just down the street from the ballpark has its perks.

“Now that I do have the support from the Jaguar fans and the Jumbo Shrimp fans, it’s pretty great and awesome,” she said.

Kornberg said until now, games only allowed for 45 percent of the fan base. If there were more than 3,250 people, that was considered a “limited capacity sellout.” Kornberg added that 10 of 12 games were sold out this season.

To Gantt, news of the Jumbo Shrimp drawing more fans means hope for better business. She can’t wait to feed the people in her community and hungry fans alike.

Kornberg expects Jumbo Shrimp games later in the week to get close to selling out.
