1 dead and another critically injured after Philips Highway crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was killed and another person was left critically injured after a crash on Philips Highway Saturday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of a fatal crash at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Philips Highway, north of Baymeadows Rd.

The 23-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger from Jacksonville, Florida were traveling southbound on Philips Highway in a pickup truck when they traveled onto the west shoulder and struck a roadway sign support pole.

The driver died instantly while the passenger was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

FHP reports that neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
