$3,000 of loss, damage to Mandarin Athletic Association concession stand

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Surveillance video captured three crooks allegedly burglarizing a concession stand at Greenland Park in Mandarin.

The president of the Mandarin Athletic Association Wes Benwick said the suspects pried the door open with a crowbar then went snooping inside. He believed the crooks knew their way around based on how they maneuvered in the area.

The men spent about 45 minutes, according to the surveillance video, inside the concession. The crooks reportedly took two iPad cash registers, snacks, drinks and a safe with $400 inside.

“They took one of our carts, took what I believe is about a 200 pound knee-high safe and wheeled it right outside the door,” Benwick said.

Two men were described as about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, and about 140 to 160 pounds. Both men were wearing light colored sweat pants and sweat shirt. One of the men appears to have a beard and possible mustache.

The third crook is between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall and around 150 to 170 pounds with a full beard and light mustache. He was wearing a camo jacket and light colored pants.

The damage and loss total more than $3,000.

“Something along the way fell apart and allowed these kids to think that it was OK to do this,” said Benwick. “And that's just a real shame and a disappointment for our own city and society.”Benwick said he has one concern he'll be taking to the city. It's that the park has to be accessible 24 hours a day, so the gate remains open and unlocked, which is how the suspects got in.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating the case.Anyone who has any information in regards to this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
