JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 45-year-old woman drowned Sunday at Huguenot Park.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded just after 2 p.m. after Ocean Rescue reported the drowning.
A lifeguard told officers that she was alerted to the victim by other people in the area. She found a child hanging onto a boogie board and the victim face down the boogie board.
The lifeguard said at no point in time did she see the victim’s face submerged in the water, JSO said.
The lifeguard told police that she brought both the child and victim to shore. The victim, who was identified as Penny Smith of Jacksonville, was taken to Baptist Medical Center Nassau, where she died.
The investigation is ongoing.
