After Lake City internet cafe robbery, resident says to 'close them'

LAKE CITY, Fla. — Police are looking for two masked men who shot two workers and ordered everyone to the floor inside an internet café.

The men walked into the Treasure Island Internet Gaming Café early Friday morning with a gun and shot two people.

“How exactly that happened or why exactly that happened is unclear at this point,” said Mike Lee with the Lake City Police Department.

Police say the attackers demanded cash and at some point shot two employees, who were flown to a hospital in Gainesville.

“They are still alive at this point,” Lee said.

Investigators say the two men took off.

Just less than three months ago, the same internet café was robbed at gunpoint. Investigators say two men with masks on had guns and demanded cash.

“We’re still investigating to see if there’s any connection between this one and the last one,” Lee said.

Police say another internet café, Golden Kave, was also robbed at gunpoint in the last three months.

“There’s a lot of money moving through these places; they view them as an easy target,” Lee said.

Lee said they have responded to a number of calls at internet cafés, including burglary, battery, theft and drugs.

“Close them, they need to close them,” Sue Strickland said.

Strickland said her daughter-in-law was inside Treasure Island Gaming Internet Café working when it was robbed at gunpoint just months ago.

“She was terrified. She was terrified,” Strickland said.

Two masked men pointed guns at the employees.

“They locked her up in the back room. She was terrified,” she said.

Strickland says her daughter-in-law no longer works there.

Right now, police do not have a description of the shooters.
