GLEN ST. MARY, Fla — To help residents get hurricane-ready, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management will host a hurricane preparedness event this weekend.
The informative event will take place on Saturday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Glen Baptist Church on County Road 125 in Glen St. Mary. Attendees will receive free preparedness supplies, see demos of emergency equipment, and talk with a meteorologist from the National Weather Service.
“We’re hoping, not only residents from Baker County, but anyone that wants to get information on hurricane preparedness, having kits and things available for them and their families, including their pets; this is a great chance to get that information and talk to people,” said Director John Blanchard IV. “But we want people to understand, it’s not just hurricanes. There’s other things, such as fires, that have touched people that can be a disaster for you. So those types of planning are what we’re trying to get people information for. The same thing with damages around your house, how to properly file for some of those things and what may be available for you for any disaster.”
