Best friend speaks about 9-year-old hit, killed by car

Friday friends gathered to remember a local 9-year-old child who was tragically hit and killed at a boat ramp.

The incident happened last week after a teenager was backing up a car at a boat ramp in St. Augustine, he hit Logan Stroud and he later died from his injuries.

Friday some of his best friends threw a party to celebrate his life, something they would often do when he was alive.

Camryn Daugherty was Logan Stroud’s best friend. She lived right next door to his grandparents.

Cameryn is one year younger than Logan. She said he is being remembered as a loving friend.

“I really miss him. We were like brother and sister and we almost look alike so we call each other twins and stuff. It was actually very heartbreaking for me because my plan was all summer, he’s here all summer so I was going to play with him but he passed away on the last day of school,” Cameryn said.

Camryn said Logan had dreams of a career in the military when he grew up.

“His thing was like Army. He wanted to be an army soldier when he grew up so he drew a little Army person,” Daugherty said.

Tom Walther was Logan’s school bus driver since he was in kindergarten.  He said he too was heartbroken after finding out what happened to Logan.

“It was difficult for me leaving at all last Friday. It was my last day and then I got to his stop on his street and I’m like Logan didn’t ride home and then I didn’t find out until later what had happened,” Walther said.

In honor of continuing Logan’s legacy Walther is creating a scholarship program for the children who live in this area in remembrance of Logan.

However now all of his friends and loved ones are left reminiscing on the good times they shared and the long lasting memories with him that they will cherish forever.

“Every day when he go home we drop them off at his house sometimes and usually we hop out of the car and he give us some hugs. I’m really going to miss those hugs. I really miss him,” Cameryn said.

Sheriff’s deputies said this incident is still being investigated and Logan’s family said his funeral is scheduled for the first week of June.
