COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a donation of a Bexley Box from Walmart to support law enforcement officers caring for young children impacted by crime.
Bexley Boxes are comfort kits filled with essential care items, including diapers, formula, sippy cups, toys and stuffed animals. The supplies provide law enforcement agencies with immediate resources to assist young children impacted by crime.
The initiative was established through the Bridegan Foundation, which was founded by Kirsten Bridegan. The foundation was inspired by Bridegan’s young daughter, Bexley, who spent hours at a police station after witnessing the killing of her father, Jared Bridegan. Officers had limited supplies available at the time to comfort her.
Abby Belobraydic, regional vice president at Walmart, stated that the company was pleased to partner with local law enforcement and community leadership to supply the kits.
“Walmart works every day to help families live better and that includes helping during some of the most difficult moments they might face,” Belobraydic said. “Our donation to support Bexley Boxes in Florida will help provide much-needed care and comfort to children affected by crime. We’re proud to stand alongside the Bridegan Foundation, the Florida Attorney General and law enforcement across the state to support the communities we serve in this special way.”
In addition to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Bexley Boxes have been distributed to several other law enforcement agencies across Florida and in 11 other states.
