ST. MARYS, Ga. — Mary Lee Clark Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown Thursday morning after two people ran from a traffic stop nearby. One person has been arrested and Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputies are actively working to locate two other suspects.
The incident began when a deputy conducted a traffic stop near Colerain Road and St. Marys Road involving three individuals. Sheriff’s office officials said there is no indication of a direct threat to the school and the lockdown was established out of caution while law enforcement activity continues in the area.
After two of the three vehicle occupants fled during the traffic stop, deputies located and arrested one person. Law enforcement officers are searching the surrounding area for the remaining two individuals.
Because of the police activity, school buses are being temporarily rerouted to St. Marys Middle School. Authorities are asking parents and community members to avoid the area and not approach the Mary Lee Clark Elementary School campus until the area has been cleared.
